The Gospel

In the beginning, the eternal Triune God, though He needed nothing, was pleased to create the heavens and the earth and all that they contain in six days. On the seventh day, God ceased from His creation work and declared that everything He created was very good.

Sadly, the crowning act of God's creation, Adam and Eve, who were made in the image of God, disobeyed Him, choosing rather to follow the advice of the serpent to rebel against God and seek to usurp His authority. As a just punishment for sinning against their holy God and Creator, Adam and Eve were cast out of the Garden of Eden, and the world was cursed. This is when physical and spiritual death entered the world. Now, all humans inherit a sin nature from their first parents.

Apart from the amazing grace of God, we would all be doomed to suffer the just penalty for our sin. But God, being rich in mercy and grace, made a way of redemption. The eternal Son of God, who is the second person of the Trinity, took on a human nature and entered into His creation, being conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin.

Jesus lived a sinless life, fulfilling all righteousness, and willingly suffered death on a cross at the hands of wicked men. On the Cross, a great exchange took place in which the sin of all who would believe in Him was placed upon Christ, and He absorbed the full weight of the wrath of God that His people deserved, and the righteousness of Christ was imputed to His people.

After confirming He had indeed died, Jesus was placed in a sealed tomb. On the third day, He arose from the dead signifying that His sacrifice had been accepted and He had conquered death. He revealed Himself to many. Then, He ascended into heaven and now sits at the right hand of God the Father making intercession for His people.

Christ calls all people everywhere to repent of their sin and believe in Him unto eternal life. One day soon, Christ will return both to execute judgment upon those who are not in Christ and to gather and glorify His bride, the church, to live and reign with Him in the New Heavens and New Earth forever.
